In August 2014 two independent preparatory schools embarked upon a journey together to share ideas about education. Both co-educational day and boarding schools for 3-13 year olds, it is likely they'll share similarities. Yet with 6,000 miles between them, stretching from Dover, England to Kabira, Uganda, there are certainly differences for the participants to explore.

Forming a link with St Paul Kaaso Primary School in Uganda was regarded by the Headmaster of Northbourne Park School, England as an opportunity for both schools to learn from and with one another about best practice in education. It was not viewed as an opportunity to set up a charitable programme; it was believed that strong relationships between pupils and teachers could be built if values such as equality, mutual respect and reciprocity were placed at the heart of all linking initiatives.

The Director of St Paul Kaaso, Dominic Mukwaya, shared Northbourne Park’s vision of breeding mutual understanding between the two institutions and was keen to be involved.

These two communities are committed to bringing learning to life and opening up their classrooms to the wider world. Their aim is to inspire, engage and empower citizens to play an active role in making the world a more just and sustainable place.
